Nowadays laptops are more in use than desktops. In some sense desktops are robust and very easy to maintain. But this is not the case for laptops! Though laptops are evolved a long way and they can be used comfortable and perfectly for day to day use we need to care for these devices otherwise you may lose or hardware along with important data. The one most important problem faced by laptop users is problem of overheating. In every laptops there are fans to keep it cool and those are provided by the manufacturer; still sometimes you may feel that your laptop is overheating.

Why laptops overheat?

The answer to this question is that when you are using laptops you will definitely run some applications on it. Running application means processing the data using CPU in some way or the other. So internally data processing means passing the current. So if you are using more applications more data will be processed and more current will be used which causes the laptop to or any other computer to heat. The other reason why laptops overheat more than desktops is that in laptops space is smaller and all the components are fitted in tiny places. Which means there is place for air to play in and out. So the laptops will create more heat than desktops. While using fans and cooler pads is one of the options to keep your laptop cool; in this article we will discuss the ways that can be simply implemented in order to prevent your laptop from overheating:

  1. Do not block your laptop's air vents. Most laptops have fans fitted inside it and those fans are responsible for throwing out the hot air from your laptop case. This can be achieved by using the hard surface to place your laptop. You can use a small notebook or book to keep under the laptop to prevent the blocking of air vents which are placed mostly beneath the case.

  2. If you feel your laptop is overheating and if it is on your lap put it down. Placing laptop on your laps will laso block the air vents.

  3. Close the applications which you are not using! Thereby you reduce the CPU usage and current flow which will prevent your laptop from overheating.

  4. Use software or apps to analyze your hardware. You may search the manufacturers website for availability of such software or app. If you do not find one you can try one of the software here to keep the record of your laptop's temperature.

  5. Use the power saver mode. You can control the power settings by navigating to "Control Panel" >> "Hardware and Sound" >> "Power options".

  6. You set the settings in BIOS defining the highest temperature to run your laptop. If your laptop goes beyind the specified temperature it will automatically shut down itself.

  7. Shut down your laptop for some time. Giving your laptop a break of 20 minutes either by hibernating it or by shutting down will help to reduce the temperature.

  8. Use cooling fans or cooling pads for your laptops.

  9. Clean the laptop for dust particles along with all the air vents! It help the built in fans to function smoothly which are the main tool to keep your laptop cool.

  10. If possible maintain the room temperature at it lowest. Do not use your laptop under direct sunlight. But this is not in our hands to maintain the cool surroundings always. But it is one of the options to cool your laptop.

So these are some ways to prevent laptop from overheating. Laptop overheating may cause many problems which may result in permanent failure of device or permanent loss of data.
